I'm looking at a 2001 3/4 ton, one of the options is a HD transfer case. What do I get for my $100? I understand this is the same transfer case in the 1 ton. Looking underneath both trucks gives no answer.

Also, has anyone changed a 1 ton back to use singles? What is involved? Just a quick guess is that I could change the front hubs to ones with less offset and then change to the single rims. I want the HD frame, but don't want the duals for off road.

Thanks... .

The frames are exactly the same... the hubs and brakes are the only difference. The only reason the bed capacity is higher on a 3500,is because the two extra wheels carry about 2000 lbs of extra weight (ex. 8,800 vs 10,500). Trailer towing capacity is the same between the two. So if you don't want a dually, get a 2500.

look at https://www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb//Forum4/HTML/004684.html for info on the difference between the transfer cases. Look for the reply from Dave Fritz towards the end for his comments.
