Really hoping Vaughn MacKenzie sees this and posts up his HE 351 experience. This NW Bomber writeup has certainly peaked my interest is doing same;

My homebuilt 35/40 HX35 Hybrid is a little laggy pulling the 12k trailer it sometimes drags across the Rockies and it's always been super prone to barking if you don't really keep the rpm up. Also it doesn't do that great of a job keep egt's down.

I'm thinking the HE 351 may well meet my needs in cooling my little 350 hp'ish 5.9 without the issues mentioned above. It seems Vaughn solved most of the issues of adapting the HE351 to a 12 valve, just curious how it's held up over the test of time (5 years).

Any other thoughts are very welcome. I'd been on the hunt for a set of BD towing twins, but with my modified 250k mile HX35 needing a rebuild, not sure I trust it in the twin turbo mix, that and the cost are both big stumbling blocks for me.

I've heard of this done several times! I have an 06 Cummins and still run factory turbo for now that is. I haven't put on dyno but I run a bulldog, CAI, and exhaust and with bullydog turned up sometimes it really does good seems to be a reliable well built turbo I'm eventually going with twins to get best of both worlds but that won't be until I pull engine and build it. Sounds like a fun swap to do!

Have you considered rebuilding your HX35 and use it in a compound setup. There is still the cost of the large turbo and plumbing though. I have no experience with the HE351. I have read the make for a good turbo in both single and compound setups.
