Here is a huge puzzle,

This is what is left of my head gasket falure-------

The burned to a crisp o-ring & gasket :(#@$%!

The DDP4's pop tested from 261-291, One even leaked at the top.

The truck ran fine but just overheated rolling down the highway.

What do you think??????

How many miles on HG & ORs , what kind of driving / use ?

JFaugh,

This H/G & o-ring set has been in for only a month. #@$%!

I did no drag racing or dyno events, just driving.

You can e-mail me for the break down on this issue.

What was the higest EGT (Pre-Turbo) you observed and highest boost? Man that one piston looks like it got real hot and overfueled or something. That stinks!

A friend of mine had studs installed (not ringed) after the stock gasket blew (172k) and within 2000 miles the head gasket blew in the same spot (between two front studds). He had it O-ringed this time - the person performing the work said when he took it apart the front two studs (where it blew) creaked so they were probably not lubed upon install and worked their way loose.

Joe Mc,

It turns out that the injectors were faulty. They pop tested 30 bar difference. The motor never got hot. The EGT"s were never above 1350*.

I learned about the lots of moly from a previous H/G failure. I also learned to torque the studs cold slowly till tight.

As we speak the motor is waiting to come out for R&R.

Thanks,

MAN that stinks! I thought something was going on based on that one piston top.
Is DDP kicking in anything or strictly out of your pocket?

Joe Mc,

Lenny seems to think it isn't his fault-----#@$%!

But he will rebuild the injectors for free:-{}

More on this if you send me an e-mail.

That makes it tough , a name I have been seeing for some time to put some suspect points behind ,
Every body makes mistakes [ some more , some less ] it seems that your need to do a lot of buis with a place to know how good they do .
I got impressed with a machine shop [ craft machine , Santa Rosa , Ca. ]
When I went in there to get some babbitt bearings , & then guy at the counter got out the caliper and opened a brand new box & measured , I asked [ just to see ] He said that nothing leaves the shop without being checked [ + points ] they have seen mis boxed bearings .
Then a biggy is , if there is a problem , now what happens .

Joe Mc,

I'm sorry that I didn't give you a total reply to your question.

The truck never had a EGT issue, barely makes 1300 at 110 mph.

The gauge is 2 years old, with the new sending unit put in last year after IRP.

I'm putting in almost 50 lbs. of boost max.

Thus the motor is coming out next week, going to the machine shop for possible deck check & bore check.

The R&R pistons & bearings will follow to make sure it will live 300,000 miles or moreOo.

WAYNES WORLD.

There you go Wayne - Found that silver lining! Hell of a way to get a fresh motor though. Enjoy it when it's done. Good luck.

JoeMc,

I like that look myself, although the bank account was not as happy. :-laf

Besides it good for another 500,000 miles.

Keep us up to date with the progress. Pictures would be great as things move along.

This would be an excellent article for a truck magazine to cover. At least I think so. You might try to contact a few to see if they'd be interested in publiciszing a story. May be able to convince them, and a few vendors you'll be using for parts and such, to kick in some $$$ to help speed the story and give press to the parts used . . . . Never hurts to ask/try.
