Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Head Gasket Repair Procedure?

Hi All,



I am going to replace a head gasket in a 94 this weekend and was wondering if any of you might have a procedure or instructions that might make things go a little smoother. I have done a lot of head gaskets on 3406E, C-15, and C-16 Caterpillars, but I am new to the Cummins stuff. Any ideas such as addresses for online manuals or home-written stuff would be great.

Please check the archives. Other members and I have posted a number of times with tips, part numbers, etc. Contact me off line if you can't find what you need.



Scrape the surfaces clean, wipe with lacquer thinner. Mop out every head bolt hole. It will take at least 100 q-tips.

Install gasket dry (Cummins 3283335 for stock thickness).

Oil head bolts threads and shoulders, let them drip onto a towel.

Torque in 4 stages to 115-120 ft lb. using Cummins sequence.
