I have a 12valve engine from a 94. Engine is completely stock except for a banks turbo. I'm losing coolant externally. At first I thought it was the thermostat housing leaking. I also replaced the small hose with the 90 degree bend for the heat line just above the thermostat. Still losing quite a bit of coolant. This engine came out of another truck I believe it has 270-300k on it. I had a 97 that had a small green stain on the side of the block just behind and below the thermostat housing. It just had that stain but never had to add coolant to the 97'. My real question is this a common spot for the head Gasket to blow out on a 12 valve? Second question. This motor also has a leak where it loses prime on the fuel. When you use the manual plunger on the lift pump you can hear a small amount of leakage on top the injection pump. Is is common to leak at the delivery valves or do the lines crack at the ends and leak? Sorry for the questions. It has been so dang reliable I have not had many real problems with these engines. Thanks in advance

The original head gasket can leak coolant out near the RF corner of the engine by the thermostat housing. The Cummins p/n for the upgraded gasket in std size is 3283335. The valve cover gaskets can be reused if they are still soft and flexible. If possible leave the turbo and exhaust manifold attached to the head and use a picker to lift it off in one piece. This will lessen your chances of breaking an exh bolt. There are 3 different lengths of head bolts with the real long ones going through the rocker pedestals. You will need a couple of grid heater gaskets ( p/n 3969988 ) as well. Don't forget to put the push tubes back in the same places they came from. Shadrach
