Head Gasket?

What is the best head gasket I have resurfaced the head so it may have to be thicker. I have blown two:{ #ad
and don't want to go through this again any time soon. #ad

The latest gasket from Cummins is an upgraded part from the 95 year model gasket.

The Marine gasket comes in standard, 10 thou thicker and 20 thou thicker.



Having a super clean surface on the block and head is very important. I wipe the surface down very well with a clean towel or two with lacquer thinner or acetone.



Lowering your compression is going to lower your overall power as well. Unless you are running alot of fuel or propane I would not worry about going thicker.



The surface on the head is very critical and will make or break the job you do. I rough machine like a Storm Vulcan can really tear the surface up and make it lose another gasket. Only a few places can get a good surface without making it too rough.

Of course if you removed a bunch of material you will have no choice to go thicker to get your compresion height in order. Valve depth in the head is another measurement you need to know as well after a valve job and re-surface. I have seen too many gasser machine shops think they can surface diesel heads and end up making a mess out of them.

Call Piers,

I was just at his shop the other day and saw his copper head gaskets they designed. I think they are now available for sale. They look a lot better since they have no rubber type material on them to fail. They are available from stock thickness to 50 thou over. His number is 604-853-9396.

Ok so my head gasket is leaking a tad to the outside world again. Just anti freeze but it's time to pull it off and replace. What pros or cons to the different sizes if my head has not been worked?

Does adding more hp make a difference on size?? Got Piers 370's and spring kits waiting to go in when I do this head gasket.

Thicker gaskets lower cylinder pressure and lowering cylinder pressure will take power away from a stock or even some heavily bombed trucks by doing so.

I went with the thicker gasket because the future stuff I want to do to the truck. I currently have way too much gasket for my application, but hopefully if work picks up and the cash gets better I can change that.



For everyday work I would just stay with the standard thickness gasket.

The copper head gaskets are either ready to ship from Piers or they are getting close to be. Copper sounds cool to me.
