Been talking with my local Cummins dealer on head gaskets. They are the type of dealer that will not sell you anythig without the engine # and when they sell you that part they do not have the complete info. So what I'm looking for is:

1) What is the compressed thickness of the factory head gasket?

2) What is the final compression ratio with the +0. 020" gasket installled?

Just looking for info.

1. about 0. 060" and 0. 080" at a guess; on the bench after removal they are about 0. 062" and 0. 082"

2. compression drops about 1 point. Spec for 12 valves is 17. 5, but I calculated one using cc's of the components and arrived at 16. 5 stock, 15. 5 with . 020 thicker gasket.

3. Just a comment, you don't have the same 370 injectors Piers and I found and tested.

I know the injectors are not the same as Piers. I got them cheap and Piers said they produce about 8-10HP less with more smoke. That doesn't bother me concidering the deal I got.

Why so much variance in the stock head gasket? You said a +0. 020" gasket will drop the compression 1 point. Your range for factory is 0. 060-0. 080" = 0. 020" differance or 1 compression point. Am I reading this incorrectly?
