How about a few hints on removing the Headlight assembly on a 2001? I need to drill a 1" hole in each assembly to mount some strobes and there isn't enough room to get my drill in, even using a 90 degree adapter. Hopefully I can do this without having to realign the headlights. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the sport model. I put the strobes in my turn signals that way they show to the side too. I drilled the holes above the t/s bulb. That way someone can't see them unless the stoop down. At first I had amber strobe front and rear. I have changed the front to clear. The rear strobes are in the back up light sections as are my turnsignals.

How did you get access tp the turn signal housing? I guess I'm not looking in the right place. Can you describe how you were able to do it? I already have put the other stobes in my rear tail lights and also in the 3rd brake light on the cab.

Who's this CMacKenzie dude? ;)

Tell me more about this strobe light stuff, I assume you are shooting for improved visibility. There have been quite a few on TDR who have BOMBed their lights in one way or another but this is the first mention I've seen of strobe lamps. Where did you find such lamps, and are they very expensive? This has piqued my interest!

Glad to have you on board man!

Well Vaughn, you must be a good Scotsman since you spell your last name with "Mac" instead of the dreaded "Mc".

I work 14/14 as a Paramedic offshore and when I'm home I usually on call with my Rural Fire District as a First Responder, meaning the only ambulance is usually 25-30 minutes away and I can get there quicker and start treatment. I use my truck as a Fast Response Vehicle. The strobes will be used as warning devices while I am enroute and also to warn motorists of a possible accident. I already have stobes mounted under the rearview mirror.

Well, after having some more coffee this afternoon to re-energize the braincells, I went and took another look and found the 3 bolts that hoid the assembly. Probably start the drilling process tommorrow. BTW, the panel that controls the strobes is about 3"x 1 3/4". It has two rocker switches and a rotary knob to control the flash patterns. I flush mounted it in the sunglass holder door on the overhead console. Hopefully I'll get some pics uploaded after the install is finished.

if they're the same...

as my '97 1500, at the bottom of the turn signal there is a single phillips head screw. remove the screw and the turn signal slides right out. if you're using whelens, i know that you'll nee to drill out the same size hole behind the turn signal to accomodate the base of the strobe. my personal opinion is that the hide-aways

aren't worth the money. moved much more traffic with the two

grill-masters i mounted to the upper radiator cross-member.

Yes, true Scotsman here :) . My ancestors came over from Scotland, my great-great grandparents went with the Mc spelling when they arrived but then my grandfather fixed it back right. Family reunions are interesting since about half of us still go with McKenzie.

Well what you have in mind for strobes isn't really going to be suited for an everyday, non-emergency vehicle. It would be fun though, sure it's not legal in most places. Stobed headlights and siren would be a nice way to cut your way through a traffic jam :D Coulda come in handy last Saturday when I was trying to drive across Seattle

I use my truck at work for minor road calls and as a Safety Patrol on the dry lake bed when we are running the speed trials cars. So I put strobe lights on it. I bought a kit from Sirennet.com in Oregon.

To remove the turnsignals there is a small screw at the lower rear of the lens between it and the bumper. Remove the screw and then gently pry the light forward by inserting a padded screw driver between the light and the fender.

Thanks for all help. I ended up putting strobes in the front turn signals, headlights and rear taillights. I had decided to put some in the 3rd brakelight , but was unable to fiigure out how to fish the wire thru the body like the factory did w/ original wire harness for the cargo light.
