i am looking for a wire to trigger my extra lights on road armor bumper. so, i went to the back of head light to find the wire that has 12 volts when the high beams are on only. there are three wires in the wire harness for the head light. with the light on (checked it three times) i can not get a reading with a volt meter. is it a special plug that when unpluged from the light you can not get a reading. what is going on. how do they work.

The problem is that the computer (Front Control Module) that controls the headlamps senses that there is no bulb so it does not apply power. You should have an error indication on the dash because the computer checks for good bulbs on the external lamps needed for safety and if one or more are not good turns the warning in the dash on.

According to the 03 service manual wiring diagram, high beam wires are:

left = white w/light green

right = white w/light blue
