24,000 Troublefree Miles On An '08 "Grocery Getter"

yesterday CEL pops on and pull the code, P113c. I drove 80 miles and the light goes off. About 100 miles later, the CEL lights up again, overhead comes on " service required/ see dealer", I pulled the codes and I get:

P113c

P242F

P1451

P1011

P0087

o2 sensor, ash acumilation, low pressure fuel pump, and low pressure fuel rail.

Truck was running fine till the light went dinging and then I could hardly get over the hill. I'm only pulling about 9k total. Put my foot into it and nothing didn't have NOTHING. Got to the top of the hill and it would run just fine, Pulled over to inspect, saw nothing unusal. Stopped and filled up with fuel, ran like a wildcat... But I know somethings not right !!!

Took it to the dealership this morning,,,,"it amazing how some service mangers can even breathe on their own". Of course his answer was... it sounds like a pressure switch to me, and are you sure about those codes? WHY ME LORD ???#@$%!

Made it home and dropped off my load, so heres hopeing some easy fix will come my way... .

330k on the truck... you got to love'm

Darren,

If you haven't already replaced the dpf you are overdue. That is probably part if not all of your problem (ash accumulation). EB reported he had to replace his somewhere around 250k. Don't remember his exact mileage at the time. Prepare for a big bill. They aren't cheap.

Ooops. I read your comment in another thread that you have already replaced your dpf. I have no idea what the problem is.

Please post when you find out. I'd like to know.

I had read a few other posts similar to yours and it seems that the low pressure fuel pump will set all those codes if it isn't producing enough pressure. I have no idea what the releationship between the low pressure pump and DPF is but in all the cases I have seen the LP pump seems to fix the problem. I don't know if the pump is seizing but in a lot of cases people get the codes intermittenly and can just turn off the truck and when it restarts it will run fine for a while. Good Luck, Tom J.

330K will start popping a few CELs! Drive till it blows Darren!! You might be over 7000 hours on that motor, so ya got your money's worth.

Have you replaced your fuel filter? Thats something simple, but could be causing the low rail pressure. Or the pump could just be weak. P1451 is set whenever the soot load gets to 56 grams from the truck for whatever reason not going into regen at 47 grams. P242F is set between 70 and 90 grams I believe, in which the CEL will illuminate. There is a list of codes that will disable the regen process, causing soot load to continue to climb, and I do believe that p113C is one of them, but not 100% sure. In which case you might be able to get away with an 02 sensor and then forcing a regen and clean everything out. Best of luck!

The awaiting call today was, " We can't seem to duplicate the problem, Sir"... How many people have heard that one... I explained again to the service writer and the shop foreman what had happen and what I thought was the problem. As Tom stated " Lift Pump"... tank was being dropped this afternoon and pump was going to be replaced. It amazes me that some of the dealerships in this country can even keep the doors open. I'll find out tomorrow what was found since I didn't get my call like I was told I would. Oh by the way, it wasn't the pressure switch...

No, not yet. Darren can expect at least another three or four hundred thousand miles from the engine he has. His is the highest mileage ISB6. 7 I am aware of but assuming the engine proves to be as durable as the ISB5. 9 it should run a million miles.

Lift pump replaced and come get your truck... drove it 5 miles and the engine light pops back on... pulled the codes and both were DPF related. The dealership had to run a manual regen twice and then drove it for 100 miles until the codes stopped coming up. Seems to be back to normal.

Lift pump screen was covered with a black oily substance which seemed to clog the pump when the fuel level got low. Dealership seems to think the fuel line from my aux. tank caused the problem, I think it might be from the 30,000 gallons of fuel I've burnt and trash from the stations that don't filter their pumps.

Headed to North Dakota this weekend, I'll find out if it's fixed for sure.....

No Problems... . made it with no problems. replaced the fuel line, inside looked like new so that wasn't the problem. I put a inline filter on this time.
