My head is in the shop now getting checked, and I was wondering what is the better option between o-ringing the head and studs (or do you have to have studs to o-ring the head?). I realize both would be best, but cost may be prohibitive. I still have the stock turbo, but wanted to prepare ahead for an upgrade in the future.

You do not need o-rings to run studs, but both are probably the best idea for future mods. You'll be able to run much more boost with the o-rings and studs than just studs alone.

If money is an issue AND you already have the head off, have the head o-ringed now. Studs can be installed later down the road.

I agree with Bill, O ring the head what ever you do. We use a 24V headgasket on the 12V's. Some of the water ports need a little enlarging, but the gasket works better. The head bolts will take quite a bit of pressure.

I agree also, O-ring now and install studs later... . it can be done without replacing the gasket or taking the head off.

Turbo Thom I never heard about using a 24v gasket, I've only ever heard it the other way around! I thought most people go with the marine 12v gasket, is there any modifications necessary to run a marine 12v gasket or is it a straight bolt on.
