I need to get head studs before i do some damage - i have seen 55lbs :eek:of boost a handful of times.

What are the options out there for this? I plan on doing the work myself with the help of a friend (he wrenches at an International dealership).

is it as simple as pulling one bolt out and replacing it with a stud and then repeat until all are changed? Once they are all done does it need retorqued after a "break in"?

will i need a tap set? I have all the other basic hand/air tools & torque wrenches. Any other special tools required?

what is the cost of a kit? are there different kits to choose from? any do's and don'ts or helpful hints? How much time should i allow myself to get done?

you need a bottom tap. either a really long one or an extension. be very careful bottom tapping the holes. go slow. back and forth with plenty of grease on the tap. a 2 or 3 flute tap is better than a 4 flute for this.

remove the bolts one at a time in the correct sequence, bottom tap the hole, run the stud in, and torque to 100lbs or so. Then back off and retorque to 120 one stud at a time. (using the correct moly lube)

I'm curious about tapping the threads to the bottom of the hole.

Are the two or three more threads you pick worth the time and trouble, and is that the main reason for doing this?

I have asked other guys about this and never got a direct answer.

Thanks for any info. on this.
