Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Head Swapping

Just got bad news on our 97 it seams we've got one cylinder (# 5 ) that has alot of wear in it and the head has a small crack. :{ This truck has pulled heavy loads all of its life and i'm very pleased with the truck and I'm quite attached to it. I'm going to fix it this winter. Here's my question I have a first gen motor that I bought, It has a bad cam, So I'm wondering if I could swap the first gen head onto the 97's block. At a glance I noticed the 97's head has a notch in it to clear the pump. The numbers on the heads are different 1103c on the 97 and 0405s on the first gen. How big can you overbore the cylinder on a 5. 9? Thanks

I think you can swap them but not sure.

Try doing search there was a post recently on swapping heads from 2nd gen to 1rst gen I believe.
