... Leaving this tuesday morning from John Day Oregon south on 395 to Reno, then west on 80 to Sacramento and down 99 to Lodi.



Any of you spot the "White Flamer" on the road, flash yer lights and toot yer horn and give us a wave!



We'll be returning Sunday, a week from today via the same route.

Thanks Jake - I sure do miss you guys and the activities we were just getting started before we moved up here - those breakfasts and dyno days at Imler's were GREAT!



Probably too tied up for anything extra - but thanks, and perhaps we can plan a future visit to coincide with another dyno day in Sac!

Just an off the wall question, but why the 2 letter (Extra Class) if memory serves, back down to Advanced (I think)? I should have paid more attention to my old man and all his 80 meter buddies whilst I was tuning out their then senseless babble. <grin>

Just an off the wall question, but why the 2 letter (Extra Class) if memory serves, back down to Advanced (I think)? I should have paid more attention to my old man and all his 80 meter buddies whilst I was tuning out their then senseless babble. <grin>

The 2-letter calls - or 2x1 like my earlier KJ6Q, were reserved for assignment to the holders of the highest available Amateur Radio license holders, the Extra Class, which I have held since 1970.



BUT, there is ALSO provision for assignment of "Vanity", or special calls as they become available due to original holder dying, letting his license expire, or moving to another call district and obtaining a new call for that area.



When we moved here to Oregon from California, I checked available calls, and applied for the vacant K7GLD - the "K7" part identifies the part of the U. S. I'm in, and the "GLD" part is my initials - Gary Lee Davidson.

That makes sense. My family never moved so my dad still touts the W5XO he's had since the 60's sometime. Guess that's why he's never changed. Sometimes I can still here CQ-DX in my dreams. LOL :-laf
