Can I replace my 9004 bulbs with the 9007 bulbs?
I looked at them today and the 9007s appear to have the same plug sockets as the 9004s.
The reason I ask is the 9004s are 65/45 and the 9007s are 65/55.
All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Terry, From the (BEEN THERE DONE THAT DEPARTMENT) the 9007 will not fit in our Rams, the nipple on the side of the bulb is slightly different. Your best bet for a brighter bulb, is to go to jcwhitney.com. Look under replacement bulbs, there you will find 9004's from 45/65 all the way to 80/100. I bought the 80/100 for my truck , world of difference.

Terry, the JCWhitney replacement 9004 bulbs for our trucks are great and cheap! I too have the 80/100 xenons and they are great!

I have always been a stickler for bright headlights. I live out in a rural area and high wattage headlights are essential for seeing those deer lurking by the side of a dark country road.

Shortly after purchasing my Y2K Ram I got a Bright Box. Then in May, I ordered high wattage bulbs (9004 80w/100w clear) from JC Whitney. Originaly I was happy with them, then about 10 days after they were installed the bulb on the passenger side burnt out. (When installing, I was Extreamly careful not to let the bulb touch anthing. ) So, I put the stock bulb back in on the passenger side. About a month later the OTHER bulb from JC Whitney burnt out. I was out of town when this bulb bit the dust, so I went to the local auto parts store and told the salesman I wanted 2 of the brightest 9004 bulbs they had in stock. He sold me on a set of HIPER "Super Whites" 80w/100w(blue tinted). They should call them SUPER DIMS.
When I put my high beams on, from in the cab it looks like my low beams are still on. I am EXTREAMELY dissappointed with the performance of these bulbs, not to mention P!**ed Off that I paid $35 for these pieces of crap.
Go to this website if you want the lowdown on blue bulbs: http://lighting. mbz.org/tech/info/blue_bulbs/
The moral of the story is DO NOT buy bulbs with any type of blue coating unless you don't care about useable lighting output, and are just going for the show truck look.

Just yesterday after doing pleanty of reasearch on the web I ordered a set of HELLA 80w/100w CLEAR bulbs, from Susquehanna Motorsports (website: http://catalog.com/susq/ ). They cost me $29. 50 with shipping. I feel very confident that I'll be happy with these bulbs since they are made by a quality company.

Sorry for being long winded. I had to share this info so others can learn from my bad experience. After all that's what the TDR is all about.

Will these over wattage bulbs hurt the wiring in any way. What about the bright box with the 100/80 watt bulbs?

So far I haven't had any problems with the wiring, and the bright box is still working OK. www.autobulbdepot.com has high performance headlight wiring harnesses for 9004 lamps. Which uses heavier gauge wire to power the headlights. The only problem I see is 99-up Dodge Rams have a switched ground rather than a switched hot wire on the headlights. And these harnesses are probably designed for a standard setup.

Dang Brad, I hate to hear of anyone of us getting a raw deal. I agree that the blue series sucks, though. The bulbs were on sale so I ordered the xenon and the regular ones both 80/100 and the xenon were great, the regular ones Jff24Grdn has in his truck and they are bright too. Mine have been in since June and no problems.

I drive to work every day in the dark and have had hi powered headlights for two year now and I'm currently running Xenon bulbs 80/100 and out of all of them they are the best. My first set where from JC whitney I burnt out one in 6 weeks and I had to adjust the headlights to get the beams where they where supposted to be. I got this last set of Xenon buls off of E-Bay.

I tried the High Output bulbs that Wallmart sells (after reading about them here on the TDR), and did not see much difference, maybe a litle, but would rather have the 80 watt ones.

Brad Kowalski,
I just ordered a set of bulbs from them also. They seemed very helpfull with all of my lighting needs (except stobes). Thanks for the link. #ad

Brad,
I have to agree on the blue bulbs. They bite the big one!! The only time I like them is when I see the front end in direct sunlight. #ad

Thanks for the lead on better bulbs!

(I have the same deer detection problems)

I'm pretty happy with the stock ones. These are the brightest headlights I've ever had (stock) a britebox would be cool.

What are the wattages of the stock ones 80/55?

What is the JCWhitney part number? Is it the "80w/100w H4 #71ZX9790A $8. 99 ea. " or the "100/80 9004 replacement #81ZX7297X $14. 99 ea. " Thanks.
