headlight relay

Why does headlight switch get hot within a hour? Can I connect a relay between the sealed beam and the 3-slot plug?

Hey Patrick I use a Headlight relay kit that you can get from E bay. work's very well . and only thing you have to do is make to ground connection's .It's Plug n play.
