I am looking for the correct replacement bulb number for the headlight switch. I looked at Sylvanias website and they list the wrong number 158. The bulb is small like an aftermarket gauge bulb. The bulb has about a 1" plastic extension housing. Thanks, Sam.
When my headlight switch lamp burned out a couple of years ago, I searched extensively and never could find an exact replacement. I ordered a few that looked close from online electronic supply store and another lamp specialty store, but none were just right. Either the lamp would be slightly too fat, or if the it was the correct diameter, the leads were too short to work with the long plastic extension sleeve.
The bottom line is the lamp is not considered replaceable. Believe it or not, you're expected to replace the entire switch assembly! I guess someone figured it just wasn't cost effective to stock and sell the lamps. The good news is the switches aren't too terribly expensive (relative to many other replacement parts that is), and since they do wear out eventually, it's probably not a bad idea to replace it anyway.
You can buy a new one from Rock Auto starting at $36. 79 (no fog light option, but w/cargo lamp). TDR members receive a 5% discount by using code TURBODIESEL2211 at checkout.
the bulb can come from a 97 dodge intrepid or simular model headlight switch. They are plentifull at the junk yards. Get extras, about 4-5 are burned out of every 10. 4 phillips screws and the switch is out in 1-2 mins top.
My '01 has fog lights, and the fog light bulb will replace the bulb in a standard switch(w/o fog lights). I can't find my receipt right now, but a co-operative dealer parts man can find the bulb for you.
There are two bulbs, the tall one for the switch position is found in the intrepid switch. Never looked into the fog bulb, yet, mine have always worked.
