relay

I used a dual headlight relay from J. C. Whitney, part #42AU0002W, $18. 99, pg. 135,cat. #658J-01. Follow the high/low beam wires from both headlights back to the area around the battery(my bat. is on drivers side),cut them and splice in a length to reach the relay which I mounted on the fender lip next to the battery. You put the high/low beam wires from the switch on one side of the relay and high/low beam wires from the headlights on the other side. Run a wire direct from the battery to bat. terminal on the relay and your done. You don't need to pull the switch. This takes the headlights off the switch but that is the major load. The lights are brighter and I run 100/80 watt bulbs. This is what I have done- others may have a better solution.

Trick for pulling headlight switch

as I just did this last night. Book says to disconnect batttery, then unscrew interior Bezel from dashboard, about 7 - 8 screws, don't forget the one by the radio. Slide that out of the way, reach up underneath the dashboard for the highlight switch and you will see (mostly feel) a little button that you need to depress while pulling the light switch from the dashboard. It took me a couple of tries to do this. Found to pull the headlight switch all the way out and then push it in & out while pushing the button worked. Then unscrew the covering for the mirrors and switch and you will notice a large phillips screw/bolt holding the switch to the dashboard. Once that is out, pull the switch out from underneath the dashboard and you should be set. It doesn't go far so don't pull with all your might. Install in reverse order.
