In the past I have had problems with other vehicle when upgrading the existing headlight system to halogens. Does Dodge have any limits as to how high a wattage you can install before perhpas kicking a fuse/breaker/relay etc. ??
I was thinking of going up to 100/150 halogens. Will these 'overdraw' the system??

Actually the stock lighting system overloads the system, the headlight switch is the weak link, if your going up i wattage you'll need to add a relay system, pull the headlight voltage directly from the alternator and just use the existing wiring to activate new relays, doing this alone with improve hedlight performance 100%, jacobs electronics sold a kit they called a headlight britener that used heavy duty relays, but i think i heard hear from some one that they no longer make the product you might want to check with them, i been sing there kit for years and love it, along with a set of halogen extra visions it's all the light i need, try www.jacobselectronics.com

The switch is the weak link. My 80W make the switch a little warm, I have to install an off-road wire harness to the lights with the appropriate relays #ad
. The wires to the headlights are puny and most likely couldn't handle the 100w or 150w per bulb.

About 7 years ago I installed a Bosch Halogen upgrade kit. It uses H4 lamps that fit into a dummy sealed beam unit. Have not had any problems so far, not even had to replace a lamp yet. Don't know how much current they draw, haven't had any reason to measure it. The illumination level is much better than the stock sealed beams.

I hear a lot of talk about the headlight switches going out on these trucks. I have not had any problems with mine - yet. I've been running halogen sealed beams for five years now, without any problems, but then again, the rest of the truck isn't lit up like a Christmas tree like some of the rigs I've seen. Does anyone know if the stock headlight circuit uses a relay for the lights? If not, it would probably be a good idea to wire one in.
