I was taking a Hotshot load to Cleveland a few nights ago, and my headlights went out. NOT GOOD!!! I noticed then and have noticed before a burning plastic like smell in the cab. Then the headlights start dimming out. (The burning plastic smell has happened before when it is raining as it was on this night. ) If I pull the lights on and off, it usually makes them come back on for a while. Also, sometimes when I go from High beams to low beams, I have no lights at all when I switch to low beams.

I am wondering if this is a relay, headlight switch, dimmer switch, or worse. I really don't like the burning plastic smell. Please Help!!!

You have two problems.

The first is your headlight switch itself. That is the burning plastic like smell in the cab.

How do you have your trailer light connected? If you installed your own wiring and took the power for the running lights from the back of the truck, that is what it burning up your headlight switch. If you are using the factor tailer wiring, I am now sure why you are having this problems.

The second problem is with your dimmer switch. It needs to be adjusted. There is a rod that runs down for the lever on the steering column, to under the dash to the switch on the column.

Hope this helps.
