So, I noticed that once in a while when I flashed my high beams, my low beams would not come back on once I released the high beam switch. A few tugs on the high beam switch and the low beams would come back on. Not anymore!!!#@$%! Now my fogs will come on, but my high beams won't stay on and my low beams won't come on at all. It's not the headlight switch on the console (I tried a new one). Is it the high beam switch in the column that took a dump? If so, will I need a second mortgage to buy a new one?

Sounds like the multi-function switch on the column to me. The one for my 97 wasn't too bad a price. I did need to get around the "theft proof" screws though. I drilled out the little nub in the center enough to get a torx screw driver in, then replaced them with new bolts on the install.

did you look at the wiring that plugs in back of the headlight switch on the dash? I've seen were that has melted.

Seems to point to the multi-function switch. If it goes high beams should stay on no low beams. But since you have fog lights they mite of tied those in with the multi function switch.

I suggest you look at wiring/grounds/connections also. Wiring diagrams help out a lot.

Mine did the same thing. It started the same way - intermittent and then nothing. It was the multi switch. Any parts store should carry the "safety torx" required to remove it. T20 maybe? I think the whole assy from the dealer was $50 or so. I know I thought it was reasonable, especially from a dealer.

Yep, multi-function switch.

I replaced the multi-function switch and that took care of the problem. Interestingly enough, the multi-function switch was only $7. 00 more than the headlight switch at the local NAPA. If you've seen the two switches, this should puzzle you a bit!
