I recently ordered a BHAF heat shield from a guy on eBay. His eBay user name is:
objectmaker
All I can say is that this guy does some REALLY nice work. He did a great job on the packaging and did NOT waste ANY time mailing it to me. I am REALLY happy with it and it was snap to install. Even came with a set of instructions and tips to install. Just thought I would give the guy a shameless plug in case anybody else might be interested in one.
eBay Motors: BHAF Heat Shield 94-02 Dodge Ram Cummins Turbo Diesel (item 300249391244 end time Aug-17-08 18:47:49 PDT)
I tried going with the OEM air box using the aFe Pro Dry drop in OEM filter. It was built well but dropped my boost pressure 6 psi or more from the OEM stock Fleet Guard paper filter.
I ordered a Donaldson BHAF and Outerware prefilter from Eric over at Vulcan and I am very pleased with the performance of the this filter set up. It must have near 4 times the filter media of the stock Fleet Guard paper filter. The increase in noise was not that noticable. Perhaps a bit louder idle rumble and you can faintly hear the compressor section spool up but not very loud at all or like I thought it would be.
EGT's are about 100 degrees lower across the board and the turbo spools up nearly instantaneously as compared to stock. Maybe a half second lag if that much. I have the Edge EZ removed right now so just the Mach 1. 6 injectors are in. The boost will max out at about 28 psi. Which is about a lb. or 2 more than with the stock air filter.
