I've got a 1999 4x4 and problems after 5 years of ownership seem to be popping up in the 2 and 3's.

Anyway, my heated mirrors no longer work (the light on the switch does not light up when depressed, nor does the mirrors defrost). I think it is the switch. Any help on diagnostics, cost of replacing switch, and replacing switch would be greatly appreciated (I have no idea how to pop off interior panels without screwing them up).

Thanks in advance for any replies.

The switch is part of the heater control assy. You may have to replace the whole thing @ about $158 from the dealer, unless you can find one from a bone yard. I would check for power into and out of the switch first. Any fuses and relays as well as the grounds need to be checked.

Thanks for the reply.

Any clue on how to take the heater assemby out of the dash?

I have zero clue on taking apart interior pieces. I know when I've done it before, I break tabs.

Tks again.

Make sure cab is nice and warm. Put the steering wheel all the way down. Pull dash bezel straight back toward you. It will come off. Try to work your way around the bezel a few inches at a time. This should keep it from breaking. I've had mine off 20 times or more and it hasn't broke yet. Then you will see the screws that hold the climate control in the dash.

RoadWarrior,

Thanks for the tip on getting cab warm. . Will leave truck in sun for a few hours and maybe even run the heater.

I can turn a wrench, but this interior work to me is like brain surgery verses taking out a tumor.

tks again.

Try pressing it real hard first.

My 98 has to be really leaned on before it will work. It's been this way for a year or two now.
