My 2006 Ram 2500 SLT has the power folding tow mirrors with the heated mirror symbol on them. However, I do not have the rear defroster, so I have no control to turn the heater element on.

Is there actually a heater element in the mirror? Is the wiring for that element ran in the cab, or still in the mirror housing? What is involved in getting them wired up and working?

Bernie, Don't quote me on this but I believe with my '03 that the heaters come on any time the defrost is selected on the climate control panel. I also have a push button to turn mine on if I so desire but I believe I read in the owners manual that they come on automatically with defrost mode. Hope I'm right!!!

Thanks, but I think it is different with the 06's

-Per the book the Electric Rear Window Defroster and Heated Sideview Mirrors are both controlled from the rear defroster switch on the climate control panel.

-Because I don't have a rear window defroster, I don't have the switch.

-I'm hoping the wiring is run to a central location so that I can install a switch and use the heater element in the mirrors (if the mirrors in fact have the heater element).

My 03 has a seperate button to activate the mirror heaters.

I believe you do indeed have heaters in your mirrors if they have the little symbol in them though. Maybe you just need the switch and some kind of module or something?

I have the power tow mirrors on my truck, but no rear defrost (unavailable with pwr sliding rear window). I have a separate switch next to the climate controls for the heated mirrors, just below the A/C on/off switch (button).

Mystery solved

Yep, I'm an idiot.

I have the same switch below the AC. I guess I always overlooked it, because I associated the defroster switch with a rear defroster (which my truck doesn't have). My Toyota tundra had a different switch, on the left hand side of the wheel (near where the lights are). I was still looking for a different switch.

Thank you for pointing out the obvious.

I am an idiot.

Don't sweat it! Took me a while to figure out what that button was for too. Guess that's what owners' manuals are for! ;)

No, no, no, the one w/ the snowflake is to turn on the air conditioner. The one below the snowflake w/ the squiggly lines is for the mirrors.

I've had my truck for almost three years and I think I've turned the mirror heaters on one time, and that's when I was in Colorado. I can't even remember where the switch is. I've never pluged in the block heater either. Ahh, winter in AZ.

sorry I can't help with this one, I bought the rear defogger so I could eleminate the beer window. But I Do know the snow flake one turns on the AC.
