2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Heater Core leak. Common problem?

The Truck is a 02 3500 with 40k on it. Its leaking Coolant on the passenger side floor out of the lower duct. Has this happened to anyone before? The Odor is absoutly unbarable! Luckly the truck is stillunder warrenty so as it is at the dealer right now. Anyone have an idea how long it will take the stench to burn off after the core is replaced?

dealer SHOULD clean everything up decent but yeah cores are fairly common problem.

They shouldn't normally be a problem. How often do you change anti-freeze? Do you use the recommended type?

I've only had the truck about 10 months ,so i had yet to flush and fill the anti freeze. o and to top it off the Dealer already replaced the core while they had it in their used stock inventory which was only 6k ago

The Cummins water pump, pumps a lot of pressure/volume and requires a restriction in the pressure side of the heater hose inlet at the head. Maybe it is missing or faulty. When the motor is warm have some one rev the motor to wide open and watch the heater hose for swelling. If it does there is more volume/pressure flow than the core can withstand.

I lost mine at about 65K on a hunting trip, I had over 600 miles to drive so I had to do it my self. What a PITA! If you replace it with a factory core you have to remove all the AC lines, ECM, Dash..... etc. Napa's core has swivels in the inlet and outlet that allow you to snake it back in. But you have to fold and bend the old one to get it out. I manage to get mine in with out removing any of the AC lines. The worst part is finding all the bolts that hold every thing in place. Not exactly the kind of thing you want to do in the middle of winter at 3am.
