I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 B6, basically stock, bought new in April 1996 I found my passenger side floor soaking wet with water and looked for a leak everywhere I could, but, no leak from outside, it seems. How do I check to see if it is the heater core? Does any one know an easier way to replace the core other than to pull the dash?

Remember that if its a leaking heater core, you'd smell the sweet smell of anti-freeze in the cab..... If the drain vent is plugged for the AC than the water that is condensed off the heater core and AC coil will drip onto the floor and it will just be water... . no sweet smell... .

Also if it is anti-freeze don't let a pet lick it up... . its a death sentence... .

And of course the 2 suggested leaks from above...

Give it the taste test the bitter taste will confirm it is or is not coolant.

Yes the dash must be rolled back. the evap housing must come out for the fastest change out time.

The plastic at the top of the door that the glass goes up in will slide sometimes, causing a major leak. I just slide it back in place. It is located at the very top of the door.

Still a leaking...

There is no smell of antifreeze, only water. I do have water dripping under the truck where the ac usually drips condensation. I checked the gasket at the top of the door and it was OK. What is the best way to check to see if the AC drain is clogged? I changed the gasket for the rear brake light and even put a small bead of silicone and smoothed it in as a double shot. I do not have cab lights. I'll keep looking.

where the ac drain is it is just a nub sticking out and water can run back on the bottom of the drain and into the cab is you put a peice of heater hose on the drain and point it down then the water will stop running back in also the third brake light can leak and then the water runs along the outside of the floor and collects on the drivers side or passanger side depending on which way the truck is slanted

I have had water come in both of these places on my truck

Heater Core

Had the same problem. Tried vacuuming out a/c condensate line, changed the heater core, a/c condensate was still dripping from the truck ect... Bought a $5 elbo hose from the local Dodge Dealership and no more problem. Apparently there was a notice sent out from Dodge. Anyway its any easy cheap fix!

I had the same problem on my Dad's '97 1500. I used a 8" long piece of 5/8" ID clear tubing and slid it over the condensate drain. I ran the other end down to the frame and zip tied it to a tab holding the brake line. The drain is on the engine side of the firewall, on the passenger side, just under the A/C accumulator.

Thank You!

It was the AC drain line. Just installed an extension and leak stopped. Though there was water dripping outside, there was still enough to drip inside. Thank heavens it was not the heater core, this time. I did not want to get into the dash removal headache!!! This was a simple fix. TDR and all the membership saves the day again!:)
