After removing the airhorn from manifold and intercooler I looked at the grids. Really looks restricting. I'm thinking some of the recers might have done this.

Has anyone removed the grids? Can they be safely removed? What are the results / benefits? What's the procedure? What do you do with the leads and do you have to "fool" anything?

People do it, just make sure you stay in the valley. Tape up the leads to the heater or remove them completely so they don't ground out, your wait to start light will still come on and probably stay on longer. Don't think you'll gain much performance by removing them though.

I have removed and reinstalled them. But I just bought a blank spacer from Cummins. I replace the entire grid spacer with the blank one in the spring and install the heater in winter. Cost me $26. about 2 years ago. I have the part # if your interested.

Thanks guys!

illflem; It doesn't get that cold here so I'll probably be OK. Besides, knowing me (and I think I do, sometimes  ), I'd probably keep them in the toolbox just in case.

Bob Rooks; Did you "feel" any improvement without them? It's subjective, I know but was there anything?

HVAC: HELLO!!!, are you running grids?

If they were any significant restricion, there would be a Banks kit to change them out.

The Banks twinram for 94-98. 4 apllications splits the grids.

Don't Be Silly!

Heheheeee:D

Those grid heaters are CRUCIAL! Nobody better think about removing them or codes will be set, the national guard will arrive at your home to search your personall belongings. Your children will be confiscated. It's just not good:D

Stranger, I cant say that I felt any major power improvement. But you would have to get better air flow with out the grids in there. They take up a lot of space. It would be like blowing air through a screen verses an open window! I think I get better air flow without it and a little better fuel mileage. Just one less restiction. Little things add up to big things. JohnE: When Banks went to their Twin Ram they are only putting half the air through half of the grid and they said the grid was restrictive. I asked them why they didn't put the twin ram on the 24v. You would need different injector lines and they were to expensive so they made the HI Ram manifold.
