2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Heater not hot enough

For some reason my heater will not get very hot. Worked fine before we rebuild the engine. Any ideas???

Bring #6 back up to 1350 again, that'll give off some heat! I think Gary has the right idea. Glad you're back on the road.

Glad someone thinking around here. Sometime we can't see the forest cause the trees are in the way. Thanks Gary. Now all I have to do is throw my baby Cummins over my shoulder and burp her I remember my 12 valve had this thing called a "giggle pin" used for exactly that purpose. I wonder if my 24 valve has something similar?

when I changed out the radiator anti freeze I had the same problem... . it "burped" itself in time and I added more... sometimes they will not self burp and you'll need to pull vacumne on the system and then refil

After 1200 miles you would think it would have worked the air out by now, I do have an idea after talking to Adam Man Dude and it is so ulgy I am not even going to say what I THINK it might be. I will ponder on it today and we can check it tonight.

Well men, I tested the water flow into the heater core and it's flowing just fine. So it's not an air pocket or any kind of obstruction leading to the heater core. We tested the vacuum and it's all good. Water temp is at 190 so that's good. All the control knobs are doing there job except the temp control knob. Temp control knob works up to about 3/4 clock wise (3 o'clock) position. Then it doesn’t get any hotter. Other possibilities are the "blend door actuator" or the "blend door" it's self is not opening/closing all the way. I sure hope it's not the "blend door" or the "actuator" because you have to pull the entire dash to get to it. At least that's what the repair book tell's me. What else could it be guys? When a temp control knob goes out does it go completely out or have they been know to just partially go out like in my case? A control panel is much easier to replace than a blend door/actuator.

Here is my experience, my 98 blew hot air when i got it now it dont, Ive tried it all and began to doubt. So i turned it on A/c and full heat and now I have heat. There is something wrong with my selector switch or the vaccum acutated door underneath the dash that is not operating correctly is what my conclusion is, till I can fix it i will be getting heat by running the ac. My dads 97 is the same exact way. Try it and post your result.

Could it be a vacuum leak. How long does your truck hold vacuum after you shut it off?

Do a search in this forum for Blend door... Read 'em and weep

OO Checked vacuum while truck is running and it's all good. Have no idea how long it holds after I shut it off.
