Just got a heatertreater fix for my 96 and now can't find an actuator motor on my heater. I have a cable from the temp control that rotates a shaft that is protruding from the bottom of the heater just to the right of the transmission tunnel. Would this cable be there instead of an actuator motor? My problem is I have very little heat unless I turn the control to recirculate then I have normal hot air. Any insight would be much appreciated.

You are looking in the right place but it is different on the 96 trucks. I looked before I ordered one realized it was different and asked the website operator I was looking at to change his application notes. That was about a month ago.

Send it back. Long live the cable!

Ya, I found that out now. I checked another 96 and a 97 both use cables. I did find a 01 that uses the motor so I don't know if all 96s and 97s have cables or what. Any way I had ordered two and they said I could send them back so all is good in that department but my heater still doesn't put out on anything but recirculate.

I am not sure what symptoms you are having but the door/flap that controls the recirculate or fresh air is behind the glove box. It will allow either fresh air intake or cabin air intake. When its very cold I have to run in recirc to get sufficient heat.

Go try this before you tear into your truck (this FIXED my 97's heater big time)

Insert a 20" x 12" piece of cardboard between the radiator and the aftercooler. After years of freezing my butt off I now have a super duty heater. The "actual" problem is the coolant doesn't stay hot enough in the winter.

The truck temp runs normal and I'll remove it this spring.

Not only have that blocked off but block off in the front of everything from left to right and top to bottom. Not much change in coolant temps at -20. Heats up a little faster is all. Heater puts out good on recirculate but the windows fog up. I think I will try flushing the core out before I pull the heater completely out. My buddies 96 does exactly the same as mine, only puts out good heat on recirculate.

Is this an "ignorance is bliss" moment?

If I ask what the heck a heatertreater is, and why you guys needed one, will I jinx some part of my own '96 that has never given me any problems?
