On my 97 it just started that there is no airflow out of vents or at the feet, just defrost. It does this no matter where you position the lever. What and how to check this problem.

vacuum

You lost your vacuum signal. Check under the dash first, then at the switch, then the pump on the motor.

TReed,

I am having the same problem. The vacuum actuator that controls the panel/defrost air is right above the go fast pedal. When this fails to get or hold vacuum, the air defaults to defrost.

To help diagnose, if you start at the vacuum pump (drivers side, right in front of the power steering pump) there should be a small line coming off the pump. Make sure that is hooked up. That line feeds up to the rear to the top of the fire wall. There should be a connection that Ts and heads to the passenger side towards the airbox. The line then goes through the firewall and makes a connection to the heater/AC controls (near as I can tell). Make sure all connections are hooked up. There really are not that many lines to check.

I was able to check vacuum using a Mity Vac tool from Harbor Freight of both the vacuum pump and verify that the lines held a vacuum.

If you want more details, please feel free to PM me.
