At the moment my transmission has the triple disk converter and a valve body in it, I am looking at upgrading my turbo (to get the EGTs back down where they should be) and I have to get my VP redone as it is waving goodbye to me as we speak and I will probably replace it with a Hot Rod VP. Lastly I want to add a water/met injection to help with the EGTs again. These are hopefully the only mods I want to do, so what do you all think about the transmission, will it hold?

Is there anything else I should upgrade?

Or should I just be saving for a DTT transmission?

I pull horses 50% of the time and I will be going off to college soon and dont want to have any problems with it while I am there.

Thanks for the input.

Clearly we fellas with automatics have realized our weak link is the trans - I was lucky to be able to hold off on bombs until I had mine DTT'ed. Now it's "let the games begin" time.

I recommend that you "just do it" if you are concerned with the trans holding up to your bombs. I know, I heard you are going off to college soon and I'm sure a $3400+/- bill is the last thing you want. However, if you look at it as X-amount per month you could pay it off in time . . . It's what I "had" to do cause @ 139k miles mine started shifting all wacky (not computer and not solenoids) when drained the trans the fluid was like candy apple red metal flake  then I dropped the pan and found a ton of black yuck! I knew it was DTT time Oo. But had to give it a try - reset the bands, new fluid/filter and back on the road. Same thing - drove it for a week and drained/dropped the pan same thing as prior. So for me it was a no brainer and I had to do it. All I can say is I'm happy I did as I just installed new injectors and can't wait to do the comp box. I just hope my VP survives at least a little while . . . I'm contemplating tapping the wire right out of the hole and go balls to the wall to see if I the VP hangs od dumps and then I'll need to HRVP44 it - :-laf ;)! The wife will kill me if the VP goes but, if it's done, it's done and there's no other alternative but to fix it - right ;). Man, I've spent almost 6k in the last 3 months on this thing, between the new trans, tires, injectors and comp box if I have to go another 1400 for a HRVP - I'll be in the sh*tter with the Misses :-{} . . . So what else is new . . . :-laf :-laf .

Good luck with the hard decision ahead of you and I'm sure whatever it is will be right for you - at least for the time being.

If it were me, I would do ATS way before DTT. Do a little more homework and see which one is better.

TGibbs - DieselLady is 100% correct check them all out, Goereand Bros (spelling not sure), ATS, DTT, Banks, etc. etc. theres a ton of em out there. I meerly replied with DTT implications because you mentioned it in your post - but, it is highly recommended to shop before you plunk down a ton on a trans and purchase what is best suited to your application/financial situation. Happy hunting!!! ;)

We all have our preferences, if at all possible take a ride in trucks with different trannies in them, you will see the difference. I made my choice on service after the sale, as well as who is making big power with some vendors trannies.

If you think you will not be happy with anything less than the DTT, then don't settle for anything less.

It's easy to get sucked into vendors products with smart marketing gimmicks. You have to ask yourself, how happy do I ultimately want to be with my purchase?

Do lots of research. It's free and will reward you with peace of mind.

Goerend Brothers TC/VB holding fine on a 2001 with BD8's(240), Drag Comp, and SledPuller 66. 30,000+ miles and probably 15 Hooks. This was a transmission rebuild that we did on our own. transmission shifts like a dream.

I'd go with what tiny said... Service after the sale! Dave from Goerend gave me his home Phone number on a friday night and said to give him a call anytime that weekend if i needed his assistance! That is what it is all about! The person that sells you the item, know matter what it is, cares where it is going and how it works when you install it! Just my opinion...

Goerend Trans

As mentioned by previous 2 posts Dave's customer service is beyond what anyone could imagine. Not to mention his knowledge and craftsmanship is also very very good. If I had to make the decision all over again I would go with a Goerend Brothers Trans in a heartbeat. Give him a call explain what your situation is and I am sure he will give you a very fair, honest, and experienced opinion.

No matter what transmission you choose to go with, I would highly recommend upgrading it before you BOMB the truck. The transmission is definitely the weakest link and it will be just a matter of time with a BOMBed truck before it goes. Besides, a good transmission will make all your other modifications work better (better power transmission).
