EGR unplug without tuner

Vgt help, I have a 07.5 cummins 6.7 and yesterday I stopped for fuel and got back in the truck and the exhaust brake was perminatly on and would not go off when I gave it throttle. It then threw a p2262 code. So I looked up on all data what to do and it said to check the wires and plugs and they all looks good. Then pull the vgt solenoid and see if the arm on the turbo moves free. It kind of does, but catches a little. Then it says to test the vgt solenoid and I had a buddy get in the truck and cycle the key, the solenoid did not move, I could spin the gear with my finger but it wouldn't move on it's own. Should I replace my vgt solenoid, my turbo, or both?
 
it really depends how much you want to spend... all you really need is a actuator, but then you'll need to do the calibration steps... it's not fun with out a proper computer, but if your vanes are sticking it's only a matter of time till you'll need to rebuild the turbo. so if you can, get a rebuilt one with a actuator already installed and calibrated, there is a great place in Lake Havasu AZ, but i can't think of it's name.
 
Thanks for the input, I picked up a used turbo off a 2012 that was pulled when it has 10k miles on it. It was falsely diagnosed as being bad by my friend at the dealership. They thought it was using oil but it turned out that the truck needed a head. And instead of putting the old turbo back on the owner decided to keep the new one.
 
Ok I put the new to me turbo on and it works great, exhaust brake works and everything. But I'm am getting high than normal boost psi. Like 36psi at 2200rpm
 
My stock VGT started producing only about 15% braking at 97000 miles. 2012 2500. Installed bigger non-VGT turbo. Truck runs like a race car now. Fuel mileage increased to 22/25 mpg at highway speeds. ESI tuner. VGT is a hell of a good idea but if you don't use it often it gets gumed up. Plus...OEM turbo is too small. Installed after market remote located brake...forget the name/make but it isn't near the brake the OEM was. Looking to add Pacbrakes "unleasher" (?) under the heads because I tow a 16k 5th wheel.

Thats the reason for leaving the EB on all the time, to keep it moving and not build up with soot causing the mechanism to freeze up. There is a method that the dealer can use to clean that, unfortunatly it requires a hole being drilled to allow a solution to be injected at the same time they move the variable vanes on the VGT. the 07.5 turbos had to be drilled in place, when the later turbos had the port as OEM for the cleaning process. Did your turbo have that update for a cleaning after you bought it new? Now the 2012 you installed has the cleaning port that can be accessed by a dealer to clean it.
 
Thanks for the reply, RV. I had the truck into a dealer getting a new rear main seal put in along with other incidental work and mentioned to them the turbo. I didn't push a warranty issue at the time because the seal turned out to be under warrnaty...98,000 miles and they had the balls to be asking $4200 for a new turbo. None of the drilling was mentioned! Go figure! I had Carli after market ball joints installed at a local tire shop and the kid that did it had his own diesel "hotrod" company. Well...we got to talking and decided to put a BD-power turbo/remote mount exhaust brake on. We did a complete EGR delete, too. The turbo is awesome but the brakes weaker than the defuct OEM brake! We were scheduled to install PacBrakes load lease weeper engine brake but the kids in some high tech nursing program and I think I'll have to go elsewhere. I'm a retired truck driver. After I retired I bought my own truck and ran it for 5 years. That's where I learned "BIG AND POWERFUL" truck'n. In those, you're careful using engine brakes on any non dry surface and that thinking carried over in my pick up usage. I tow a 16k 5th wheel thru out the mountain states so I gota have a decent engine brake. Surprisingly the OEM brake worked excellent on the most severe down grades. Did I mention the Dodge is my first diesel pick up?

I just had the actuator replaced last week on warrentee due to codes. I’ve got to take it back and question if they calibrated it correctly or at all. The braking is nowhere near what it was before.
