Well I've been wanting a Cummins for years, and I have convinced my wife that I should put one in my 85 d350 crew cab. I found a 91 reg. cab CTD with 92000 miles localy for 3000 dollars, what do you think?

my 85 has a 727 and 4. 10 gears, the 91 is auto and has 3. 5 gears.

thank you

mike

Is the 91 OD. With the exception of TPS (overdrive) problems, the installation is nice when completed. Sounds like a very reasonable price for the low miles. Quite a few members have done the conversion and all seem to like it. But what is not to like? If you don't already know, the crew and cummins go together like they were made for one another.

Howdy

I did my conversion in 3 weeks, just evenings and weekends. Its almost as easy as switching to a big block but mine took a little longer cause I did the conversion to 4X4 at the same time. Any questions I'd be happy to help.

The 91 I found has over drive, but it also has some kind of fuel problem, it doesn't always start without help. but with 91,000 miles i wouldn't think it would be anything serious.

Today i was just told about anouther 91with 250,000 miles and a bad clutch for $2000 this truck has pulled cattle all its life.

I'd really like to have an automatic, however I will be pulling a 38' trailer with this beast some times.

maybe I'll talk the guy down with the auto truck and buy both LOL :-laf

Well for $2000 I am now the proud owner of a 91 CTD 4x4, 5-speed it's good looking truck just needs a clutch. The sad part will be parting it out to put the diesel in my crew cab, but I realy need the crew cab not a reg cab.

This will be an interesting swap since my 85 crew is 2wd, and now I'm looking at making it a 4x4, I'm not sure if I want to cut the frames and weld the halves together or cut the rivits out and bolt the 4x4 stuff in.

My gosh it seems to me those donator trucks you found are reasonably priced!!!!

Is there a prob eith the additional weight of a diesel over the front suspension on that 85?

Or is the Dodge so tough outta the bos there is no prob??

Don't cut the frame, it's way easier to drill the holes and mount the hardware. Besides that the crewcab has a thicker frame than the newer dodge. When you drill the holes use the factory holes in the frame to pinpoint your new holes (the two frames are the same aside from the thickness and some holes) the tank out of the newer truck will fit in the same spot as well. The steering box is just abolt on as well, when you put the 4wheel drive crossmember in for the engine be very carefull with your mesurements as there is not a lot of room in between the engine and the firewall. Sorry for rambling, these trucks are just so much fun.
