first, anyone got an idea if there is a tdr discount for these anywhere?

second, is this the best way to go for hauling a slide in camper around? Would air bags or some sort of "add-a-leaf" set up be better?

I just bought one from http://www.sporttruckdirect.com/hellwigbars.html

They had the best price I could find. I have the Ride Rite air springs on my dually, mainly to level the truck out to keep the headlights aimed right. But the one time I have hauled my Lance I noticed that the truck swayed allot with it up on the air bags and off the overload springs. I ordered the Helwig as soon as I got home. :D

Talk about a great price!!

thats lower than the price when I called to become a dist.

I DID add one to a customer truck before he bought it though, and he told me he liked it very much so

IPD Sway bar

I went with the IPD sway bar IPD Sway Bar Was told by a local shop they thought they were much more stout than the Hellwig. Price is a bit more, but I do like it. I have air bags also and that does level the truck out. The downside to that is the overloads are no longer in contact and the truck sways on the bags. I ordered some of the 3 1/2" bump stops model number KU09014 from here Daystar Bumpstops Now the overloads are in contact and there is no more sway.

Fuzzy Bear, I read about the bumpstops in the last TDR mag. Figured I see how much improvement I got from the sway bar before I went that route. Did the bumpstops change your unloaded ride at all?

Don't reallly feel any difference in my unloaded ride. I don't think they come in contact unless there is some suspension compression. I don't think I get much of that because there is still some pressure in the air bags. I would spend the $70 on these and try them before thesway bar. I put the sway bar on before the bumpstops and there was still sway. Put the bumpstops on and its all gone.

the Hellwig (anti) sway bar keeps the rear of your truck flat while cornering, it does not assist in keeping your bed from sagging when overloaded, which you would then need helper springs or airbag system.

i don't have any sagging, so it sounds like the sway bar is the way to go. I'm just interested in stiffening the side to side roll.

According to my instructions they say to install it while the truck is setting in it's normal unloaded condition on a level surface.

I wrote the article in the TDR magazine. The "taller" bump stop pads did not affect the unloaded ride on my truck. As others have noted, they do help on the loaded ride by letting the overload springs stabilize (less sway) the truck.

The Rancho shocks at four corners adjusted to a higher (7-9) setting also help reduce the sway.

On my truck, the Hellwig anti-sway bar helps on both the loaded and unloaded ride. There isn't as much body roll on curves both with and without the camper on the truck.

I haul a very heavy 11'6" slide-in truck camper 80-90 per cent of the time with my truck. With the addition of the Hellwig anti-sway bar and the "taller" bump stop pads, strong cross winds and passing 18-wheelers don't bother me. The truck/camper combination is a pleasure to drive both for me and my wife. :)

What year is your truck?

They were standard on my '03 3500 DRW truck. The Camper Package option dropped with the '03 model year since the overload springs were made standard, but unlike the later model year 2nd gen trucks, there is no anti-sway bar from the factory.

Question? Do you have to replace both front and rear sway bars and will they work with the mag hytech diff cover on a 99 3500

My 2-wheel drive '03 3500 DRW has a factory installed front anti-sway bar, but not on the rear. I didn't replace the front anti-sway bar, only installed the Hellwig on the rear. There is plenty of room between the Hellwig anti-sway bar and the differential and it should clear the Mag-Hytec differential cover. (I don't have one on this truck. )

The factory rear anti-sway bar on some 2nd gen trucks didn't clear the Mag-Hytec cover. There was a spacer kit included to move the anti-sway bar further back to clear the Mag-Hytec cover. I had to move the factory rear anti-sway bar using the furnished spacer block on my previously owned '00 3500 DRW with the Dana-80 rear axle to get the necessary clearance.

I don't know how the Hellwig anti-sway bar will work on your '99 truck with a Mag-Hytec cover. Maybe someone who has a '99 3500 with the Hellwig anti-sway bar will let us know or you might post this question in the "Towing & Hauling" section.

Can any of you guys that have installed the Hellwig Anti-Sway bar, give me a quick lowdown on the installation of the sway bar on a 2003 4WD LB. I am considering it but am unsure with installation.

I put one a customers truck before delivery, And it was an easy install execpt the lock nuts they use a very cheap, So I went and got some nylon lock nuts that were better quality - the other they sent, a few were too tight and messed up a few threaded items, Not good

Other than that, the install was pretty simple my tech told me, ESP with a tall one-ton, easy to get under it :)

The install is an easy bolt-up no-drill job. I found it easier to use a couple of jack stands to support the anti-sway bar while assemblying and placing the washers and nuts on the axle clamps on the rear axle since I did the install by myself. Get everything in place "finger tight" and aligned before the final tightening.

Be sure to use a torque wrench to torque the nuts on the axle clamps to the specified torque. After you have tightened the axle clamps to the correct torque, install the locking nuts. If the axle clamps work loose, they will not stay in place when re-tightened.

I have instatted the Helwig bars on the rear of my 03 2 wd and it is great. Has anybody had any problem with truck pull after install? My pulls right a slight amount. No tire wire visible but annoying.
