I'm trying to help my mother who is trying to get Dad's truck put in her name since he passed. It has to have an emissions test and the test facility told her it failed and it got a code g53. This truck has been run very little since August.

Does anyone know what a code G53 is? Could it be a result of not being run much, of fuel settling etc? Would some type of fuel conditioner help?

She went to the local dealer who told her they never worked on Dad's truck (she later went home and found the 2004 service bill from them). I'm doing what i can from down here in AR - she's up in NE Ohio.

Sounds like your usuall here comes a automotivly dumb female lets see how bad we can trick her and how much of a bill we can produce out of nothing. I despise these types as they ruin it for all of us, plenty of money to be made out there the honest way on repairs that truley need to be made and trust is so hard to gain from people that have been burned before elseware.

Any way never herd of that code or any OBD 2 Code being relavant on a diesel powered vehicle as in emmisions testing. As far as I know you can have The MIL=MALFUNTION INDICATOR LAMP burning and have many hard faults on your ecm and still pass the opacity test not sure though cause I am only a Inspector over here in NC and we only test Gas powered vehicles for emmissions, The old 4 gas BAR 90 test was used here for years and is being done away with in less than two weeks. Now all we do is OBD 2 on 1996 and up gas under 8500 lbs gvwr or just saftey on all else after the 1st of jan 06. Just my guess anyway, I have heard of guys having betting pools in the discount places like jiffy, persision, tune, on who can take a car ignorant customer for the most money or upsale the most services and not even do them. Had one lady tell me she got her power sterring system "flushed " in 5 mins. all she had to do was sit in the car and turn the wheel back and forth while they "flushed" the system with no machine and not enough time to hook it up if they even had the proper machine.

What are the emmissions laws. In Oregon my truck does not require an emmissions test because of GVW. I would think it would be the same where you are at with Califorina being the exception.

There are diesel emissions testing in pockets around the US.

agfckrowe posted in the 911 forum that the problem is solved.
