Archived Help!!!! '06 Won't Crank....

My 06 six-speed dually won't crank, when i push in the clutch, it won't let it spin over, just clicks once... I disconnected the battery and reconnected, that didn't help, it's done it several times over the last 2 weeks, but it will start after moving the clutch a little... now it won't do crap!!!... it's kind of embarassing, it only has 5,000 miles on it, and it's sittin in the middle of a jobsite hooked to a gooseneck. I disconnected my Edge Juice, that didnt help, im guessin its the neutral safety switch or a relay or the starter? where are the relays on the '06 trucks anyway?, all i found was fuses and maxi-fuses. Is there anyway i can get this truck cranked to get it unhooked, it's in the way!!! Any help would be appreciated...

check the batteries they might be dead try to jump start the truck.

wish it was that easy, i'd have driven it home last night, tow truck is on the way courtesy of dodge roadside assistance... this really sucks

Sounds like the neutral safety switch.



The relays are on the drivers side in front of the battery. Number 14 is the starter solenoid relay. Relay locations are on the underside of the relay box cover.

There must be a safety switch hooked to the clutch, if this is true(do you have to depress the clutch to start it?) then that switch is bad or lose or disconnected.



It's too late as you have laready towed it but you could have wired temporarily around it i would suspect.



The wiggling of the clutch statement you made is the key,, it msut be realted to that part of the circut.

In the 96 service manual it is called a clutch pedal position switch, it does not look adjustable so you mite have a loose connection or bad switch.

In 96 the cpps grounds the starter relay when the clutch is pushed to the floor.



You mite also have bad contact points in the starter solenoid. If it is not the cpps.

The Jeeps nuetral safety switch can be defeated by installing or removing the fuse that controls the auto transmission. Not sure if possible on an 06' Dodge but might be worth looking.

Yeh , i had to replace the neutral safety switch on my '94, it's not an easy feat, its just a little plastic cylinder with wires coming out of it, but this '06 has adjustable pedals, so the switch "floats" on the clutch rod, i suspect that may have been my problem, on another forum someone told me to locate the yellow wire behind the driver side battery and touch it to the battery with the key on and clutch in, does this sound right to anyone? but of course i didnt get to try it...
