I'm not sure if 911 forum and 2nd generation are part of the same forum so i have decided to post problem with 911 in an attempt to broaden scope of help. I own a 1998. 5 Ram that quit running while driving at approximately 55 mph. The engine turns over fine but will not start. Am new to diesel repairs and terminology,so any help is appreciated. Like anyone else out there, trying to avoid the dealers shop of horror!

Thanks ,tteso

You need to try and get codes off the PCM/ECM.

Most likely your vp44 (injector pump) bit the dust.

When the lift pump quits working the vp44 will keep pulling fuel from the tank until it burns ups.

The crankshaft speed sensor also known as Crankshaft postion sensor or your camshaft position sensor which ever one you have (I believe you have crankshaft speed sensor) could have gone out.

The map sensor could be acting up but I don't know if that will cause a no-start situation.

Did you make sure you had fuel? The fuel guages can give wrong readings because of the infamous fuel sending unit.
