Hi guys I have a 2000 3500 5 spd and in really cold weather (20 degrees and below) my truck doesn't really shut off it almost is like someone is turning the key on and off real quick but I don't notice any of the gauges moving only the rpm will drop a few but it recovers fast sometime it will do it a lot sometime every once in a while. looking for any suggestions or maybe someone had that problem before

Truck mods cold air intake edge comp box gauges and I am tapped but unplugged.

Sounds like mine when cam sensor was going bad, tach dropping and engine bucking. Check for DTC that will point you in a direction. If no scanner use key trick. On off on off on read code in odometer window.

Ok checked the codes and got 3 of them
p0460.p0463.p1693 two of then are my fuel level sending unit just quit on me (yes I keep it full lol) unsure what the 1693 is

P1693 says there is a code set in the other module! You could be having fuel pickup issues also maybe! Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? EVERY 24V should have a fuel pressure gauge!!!!

SNOKING

When was fuel filter changed? Do you use any fuel additive to clean fuel system? Those two codes should not cause the systems you are having. One other thing the fuel pickup could be dirty in the tank. The only does it when cold also sounds like fuel gelling.

I use total power in the tank and it started doing it I changed the fuel filter and it didn't get any better didn't get any worse either ha I did find small rust particles in the filter housing clean it and ran and checked again and the rust was back in the filter? Any idea of where it's coming from ? Is the tank plastic?

Remove Edge completely and run the truck. As they age the Edges are fairly well known for causing driveability issues.

Are you sure its rust? You may have gotten some bad fuel somewhere. The pick up tube could be suspect but if your fuel pressure is steady its very unlikely.

Do you still have your old fuel filter? Would be interested in a picture if you still have it...

No sorry I don't have my old fuel filter handy I'm not 100% sure it was rust but it was fine brown sediment. I will try to remove my edge from the truck but the temperature is now rising I'm in Pennsylvania so hopefully it gets warmer from here on out.

This may be a stupid question but are you familiar with how the grid heaters work when the truck is cold? Just trying to cover all bases here before getting too deep...

I know that when it cold outside at idle I notice it draws a lot of power lol it cycles on and off but that's not what I'm feeling when I drive down the road its literally like someone is turning my ignition off and back on in a split second

I would try an APPS reset and go from there. It will cause driveability issues like your describing. Also like I mentioned above the Edge programmers can cause drivability issues as well.

What you have is an intermittent issue that may be temperature related or just may seem like it is. Gotta start somewhere with the process of elimination, start with the easy/cheap/most common issues and work your way up from there.
