Hi all,

First of all the truck went on a 160 mile round trip to Phoenix yesterday. It was a real struggle at some points as the engine just quits responding to "go" pedal. I have already ordered an APPS.

While in Phoenix, Bill Luke Dodge was nice enough to take the truck in and pull any and all codes.

Here's what showed up:

P0216 Pump timing ??

P0177 Water in fuel, I tripped this, plug not in all the way.

P0122 APPS I figured as much

P1693 PCM code generator not switching ??

P0380 Intake air heater ??

The codes indicated with ? marks I need more help with.

My question is, with the engine doing weird things like trying to stall, bucking and surging while traveling at highway speeds, is it possible that those conditions, or any one of them could have tripped the other codes?

I know the APPS failure creates some weird engine behavior, feels like it stalls while driving, I need some feedback regarding this situation from anyone with experience, please.

I have to travel to Vegas on Monday and would sure like to know where I stand with this problem.

I have already changed fuel filter, IAS, air filter, and should have the new APPS this morning.

Thanks,

DC Miller

p0216 is often caused by low fuel pressure. . Ckyour fuel pressure.

If it is OK you will probably end up changing the vp-44

Thanks Bob. Just what I didn't want hear was VP44.

Here's an update. I spent an hour in the pouring rain yesterday and changed out the APPS. I removed the battery cables from the negative terminals, but did not unplug the ECM.

After installing the new APPS and battery cables I made sure I calibrated the new APPS. I did not however manage to clear the C. E. L. So after a few key on cycles, the light went out.

Truck started up perfectly and ran smoothly. Test drive was like a new truck. I ran it with the EZ on and the then with the PE set to level one under hard acceleration, no misses or skips. Seems fine, and did not set off the C. E. L.

I will go a little further and check the fuel pressure. I have already installed a new lift pump last week.

Now, I also dissected the old APPS to see exactly what this $350 piece of hardware has inside. I will post up some photos for any of you interested in seeing this.

Monday I pull the 5'er to Las Vegas and if all goes well I will assume the problem is solved.

Thanks for reading,

DC Miller
