OK 92 D250, 215K just purchased. While looking at steering, noticed the front frame that the steering box is bolted to is flexing when the wheel is turned. I am ordering the Borgeson Shaft and new RAG Coupler. What else to I need to do to rectify the situation? John in SC

BTW, a search on "frame Flex" revealed only similiar questions but no answers.

It is unusual to see problems with the steering box on a 2x4 but its possible. Generally its the 4x4 that has the problem and it is the bracket that breaks. Better take a closer look at where you think it is flexing and find the exact problem. The frame should not flex unless it is broke behind the sector mount. Otherwise it is probably the bracket that is moving. Try searching for "steering bracket broke" and see what comes up. Good luck.

On my 2WD, the rivets that hold the cross brace in place wallowed out. I had them rebolted and the bracket welded. Stopped all flex. Just installed the Borgeson last night. My steering is now the best it has ever been in the 9 yeasrs I have owned the truck.

Grade 8 bolts

Nutty Company

I never even knew there was a bolt better than a grade 8... but there is. The Nutty Company (see link) has grade 12 hardware in every size and material. Only costs a few cents more than Home Cheapo and you know it's good stuff. They are a supplier to Sikorsky helicopters and have some even higher grade FAA approved hardware but that stuff gets expensive.

How much flex are you getting? I have a hair in mine (engine off), but cant seem to find a way that would get rid of all of it. I was looking at the front end of Mom's, (needs new L control arm bushing that I know of), and I saw the frame bend ever so slightly when she applied the wheel to it with the engine off. I'll have to look when it's running. Mine doesnt seem to have any problems, other than a rt front tire running on borrowed time that shakes at 65+.
