My 94 5speed was running fine, changed the oil and now it pours out the BLUE smoke.

smokes alot at idle and fogs the neighborhood when driving,

also runs rough at low engine speeds,

I made sure the oil level is correct.

ANY IDEAS????

Thanks to all who respond, KB

Here is a guess until someone with better knowledge posts, but is the air filter clogged? Or has anyone by any chance put gasoline in the tank?

I think that if it started right after you changed the oil, I would record the oil pressure at idle and at maybe 2000 rpm, drain the oil and change the filter again. It sounds like you are passing oil from the crankcase past the oil contol rings and burning it? Did you get the wrong oil? Maybe manufacturer made a mistake? Is there any way that it could suck oil thru the intake manifold? Bad turbocharger seal? All these are just guesses. You need someone who knows the Cummins engine better than me. Good luck

I have checked oil level, it is right in the middle of the safe mark,

the oil was changed with rotella 15-40w, and new filter.

I believe 9 qts of oil is required w/filter, is that correct for a 94?

I pulled lower I/C hose off and it is clean with just a hint of oil residue.

I believe the turbo is OK, but it looks as if there is fuel/oil residue around where the exhaust manifold ports and head come together.

Like some how oil, or fuel is blowing into combustion chamber.

also, the oil looks a little dirty with only about 30 miles on the oil change.

ANY OTHER IDEAS???

thanks,

KB

I changed the fuel filter, and that seemed to help the blue- smoking problem some.

The filter did have some water in it and the fuel looked a little nasty that came out of filter,

What additive is good to remove water from system????

thanks, KB

My 1995 takes 11 quarts with a filter change.

What's the best additive to remove water? The very best additive is a siphon hose and a bunch of 5-gallon containers! A little water in the fuel will not do much harm--all #2 diesel loves to absorb some water, but too much water will screw up the lubricity of the #2 and ruin the injector pump. Who knows how much is too much? Not me, but I also wouldn't risk ruining my pump over a tank of suspected #2. I'd siphon it out if I were concerned that there was substantial water in there.
