I was accelerating up an on-ramp this morning and she just shut down like you turned the key off. No warning, no sputter, nothing. Just sudden death and coast off to the shoulder.

Turn on the key and I get 12-13 lbs of fuel pressure post-filter. Then it just cranks and cranks. Doesn't even try to start.

I checked every fuse and relay under the hood and in the dash. All were fine. I disconnected the Edge box, still nothing. No evidence of leaks or anything wrong under the hood. Best I could tell all the electrical systems seemed to be working (obviously I didn't test every circuit).

With the Edge box, I always monitor fuel pressure hoping I can keep the injector pump from overheating. No signs of the lift pump getting weak. I've still got the factory clutch so I don't romp it that much anyway. Usually the Edge box is on 1. This morning it was on 3 when she died.

Could the injector pump go out like that with no warning?

I finally called a wrecker and took it to Cummins Southern Plains here in Tulsa (sure glad that flatbed was a Peterbuilt and not a Ford -- I'd already been shamed enough for one day). It'll be a day before they can diagnose it.

Any ideas???????

Mine did the exact same thing when the VP took a dump- any codes?

I was even going up an on ramp... ... ..... wonder if there is any correlation?

Really?

Dang!

Don't know about any codes yet.

If it is the pump, how much is a new one (or can I/should I buy rebuilt)? Should I forget this whole Edge thing and just accept 200 hp?

When mine went out it was simalar I shut it off to order at sonic and it would not start, just crank and crank, was able to pull start it and limp it home and then to shop. At the end it would not idle but I kept it running on the way to the shop. Yours is probably dead, my condolences... .

My '00 did the same thing last week. Had good Fuel Pressure (12-13 psi w/ a 3 month old LP) and all the sudden it wouldn't start. Mine is in my dad's shop so I should find out tomorrow what code is showing. Unfortunatly I think the VP is dead, hopefully yours isn't!! Let us know what you find out, good luck.

I had the same thing happened to me last month... thought it was the pump but it turned out that the scotch-lock on the pump thawd thru the wire. I soldered it all up and it runs like a champ. JB

Same thing happened to my 99 last year. It turned out to be a sensor ( I think it was the crank shaft position sensor ) located , I believe, on the oil pan.

Bad Crankshaft position sensor will show no codes on an OBDII reader, no rpm during cranking and no fuel flow on the Cummins quick check tester. The engine will just crank and crank. This sensor is located right under the starter in the block. John
