I took my 01' ETH in because I am at 27k and I wanted to get the little problems fixed I had been putting off. But, the only major issue I have with my rig is the 6 speed. It has been grinnding going in to reverse since it was new and it occasionally grinds going fron 2 to 3. I am very concerned that the stealer is goin to patch it now and 30k miles later I'll be coughing up major cash for a new transmission! They looked at it and ordered new reverse and 3rd synchro's and called me yesterday and said I needed to bring it in. The problem is when I first took it in at about 10k miles the service manager showed me a complete assembled shaft with all the syncro's and gears assembled. He told me they were going to completely replace all the guts in my transmission and that I should drive it for a while and bring it back to have the service done. Now, they are only going to replace the offending synchro's and I am pi$$ed! I didn't mind the grinding when I was going to be getting new bearings and internals. Now I want them to do what they said they would do and rebuild my transmission! Does anyone have any documentation I can take with me when I meet with the Dodge Area Service Rep in a few days? I really want to beat this, someone please help!! If there is something wrng with my early 01' 6 speed then I want it fixed while they are footing the bill! Thanks!

A couple of thoughts; have another dealership look at it and offer a solution. Document in excruciating detail who, when, where, what was said/promised and if possible get the service manager to initial your notes. If they ask why you're taking all the notes, you might tell them that you're involved in surveying their business for a Global Dodge Owner's Association (TDR :)) Have them save the damaged parts and take pictures of them. Then if you have a problem down the road you already have a lot of ammo.

Thanks for the input on that. I took it down and decided to let them fix it and I am taking pic's of the old syncros. This was my first new Dodge Cummins and probably my last new one. I believe from now on I will save my money and buy used trucks that are out of warranty so I can just fix it myself and save all this hassle. I have been without my truck for a toal of 7 days now between the two trips and I could have done it in my shop a lot faster. And no B. S. run-around! Thanks! Another Lesson Learned!

Are they also going to do the TSB on the 3rd to 4th grind? That requires a whole new counter shaft, if a large press isn't available. Just another thought to get ALL new parts.

Why does a truck have to be used and out of warranty before you can fix it yourself? Am I missing something here?

I agree that it is a hassle to use the warranty. I bought my truck used and under warranty. They warranty the vehicle against defects until 36k. If the vehicle proves to be defective in any way and it is under warranty why not let the dealer fix it. My tc went out under warranty and I did that one on my dime because of the 1 month waiting list at the local incompetent dealer. I took my truck to the dealer one time and was without it for a grand total of 6 weeks. I did not have my warranty book and was unsure as to wether they should assist me with means of transportation. they were very sure that they were not obligated to help.

One thing about my ford was if you were without it for more than one working day they gave you a car to drive at no charge. I was without my ford quite often. thats why i own a cummins.

First of all, if I didn't have to spend 30 grand on my truck I would be more inclined to come out of my pocket for repair parts. If it were say a 17 k truck it would leave much more room to pay for parts. Savvy?

About the TSB on 2-3 grind, does anyone have the TSB number? I can't find it and was told by the stealer they would only replace the two syncros, third and reverse. What gives? Someone please help!

Thanks for the info. My truck is currentlly in the shop getting the syncros replaced! The service dept. here had a press. The trans. service tech seemed to be pretty sharp and others have told me he is good. I guess we will see how it comes out. I am just ready to get my truck back!
