My Airlift super duty balloons showed up today but I can't see how to mount them without removing the stock overload springs. With the springs on, I'm left with the absolute minimum of 5" between brackets but the bags seem really squished in this position. Did anyone else running these have to remove the overloads and get shorter U bolts or can it work with them. Airlift was closed of course #ad

2001 black dually,4x4, 6 speed H. O. ,loaded up. Jacobs E brake, lighted running boards, toolbox, solor visor, mag hytec cover, rhino lined, diamond tread rail protectors, mud flaps with genos chrome plates, megs exhaust tip, VDO vision series pillar mounted pyro & boost gauges (to be changed), rerouted blowby bottle, torklift class 5 double tube extension hitch and frame mount camper anchors... Its not a hobby anymore, its an addiction!

Dune Racer,
You're probaly not getting much response to your post because not many folks add air bags when they all ready have overload springs.
I installed some 'cause I don't have the overloads.
Why do you think you need airbags? All they do is add lift and give a much stiffer ride.

Ron,

I get some sway with my camper on and the ride is a bit harsh, I have heard that the airbags help both of these issues better than overloads. I thought I'd give them a shot. #ad

I put the Hellwig air springs on my '96 3500 4x2 two weeks ago, because my truck didn't come with helper springs.

The instructions said that the helpers had to be removed if you were going to use these springs. I've heard of many people removing the helpers because they make the unloaded ride very harsh.

Due here tomorrow is my Firestone air compressor kit that has the load-sensors that'll auto-level the truck front to back and side to side based on the load in the bed. I'm definitely looking forward to that, since I carry a ~3600# Lance truck camper on the weekends, and then drive it to work unloaded during the week. One less thing to have to deal with.

Rob

Dune Racer,
I didn't have to remove the overloads, however once you fill the bags your the back of your truck will rise giving you a few more inches, I pull a 29ft 5ver and added the bags to help level my rig out. #ad
The bages have helped smooth out the ride when towing with about 75-90psi in each of them. but have to drop them to about 10 psi each with no load (will have a tendancy to make the ride real ruff #ad

I had a '97 2500 and hauled a 3500lb camper. I had overload springs on it as well but they were not enough to LEVEL the load until I installed the Air Lifts. They worked well on the 2500 but because of the payload I haul, I needed to move up. Now I have a 2000 3500 4x4 with overload springs and I haul the same camper. I bought new Air Lifts, had them installed and I love them. If your hauling a lot of weight, don't leave home with out them.

DUNE RACER,

I have the Air Lift Super Duty kit on my '99, WITH the factory overload springs. In the kit, they should have included (2) sets of U-bolts - one set of long bolts for those without O/L springs, and one set of short bolts for those with O/L springs. The instruction sheet should also mention this. My kit went on easily, and provided the recommended installed height of the springs.

As was mentioned earlier, these air springs will increase the stiffness of an already stiff ride, but what the hell, I bought a truck to tow 10,000 lbs, not a Cadillac!
