I'm looking at two 2007 trucks.

1} 5. 9 auto 80 K

2} 6. 7 six speed. 45 K

If anyone wants to give me some pros and cons I'd appreciate it. I'm towing about 10 K.

Thanks

Gene...

We drive our 6. 7 like we stole it and have had no problems with the emission equipment. . if you intend to drive it this way, working it... I'd buy the 6. 7 if its going to be a daily driver and you'd use it 20% of the time to tow. . than I'd personally buy the 5. 9L

We tow hard with an 04 & a 05, both pulling 15K lb loads. . I'm guessing 80% of the time... its a little slower than the 6. 7 but not a lot slower...

Hope this helps. .

This is my rec vehicle, 5K a year, I'm really not concerned with the power of a 5. 9 as my 97 with a # 11 plate has been fine. Mostly I want to know about mechanics. If one or the other is more reliabe. Also, is the towing button a converter lock up so I can install an exhaust brake?

Thanks

MuddFlapp, '06 and '07 have the full electronics package, engine control and transmission control to do all combinations of exhaust brake, tow haul, all with cruise and the button also can lock out OD as additional function.

'05 and older 3rd gens all have some hybrid combo but out of the box can't do torque conv lock w/exhaust brake & cruise.

I'm drop dead in love with both my rigs.

'07 sits 9 months, drives 3 mo for 10k or so. I'm going to install one of the fuel heaters to cycle engine water or oil as it sits for the 9 mo, otherwise I drive it once a month for hour or so.

Sounds to me like the hard working 6. 7's do ok.

I'm mostly urban driver in Puget Sound with my '06 and have couple key hills where drop into 4wd go full throttle 3-5 seconds or so. At 9k miles the '06 has been loosening up considerably last thousand miles or so, hopefully the horsepower pulls help out.

See you, Jim.
