Ryan,it was the gray with light brown tracer on my '95,think I found it at the big connecter near the bottom of the steering column(blue on mine). What type of remote you putting in?I used a Valiant from JC Whitney, works great, but took probably 8 hours to install, most of the time spent searching though those bundles of wires under the dash, many times you can't even twist them to see if there is a tracer on them. Word of advice, use all the wires on the remote,if you don't you'll wish you did. The color code I downloaded from their website for mine was also incorrect,if you are installing the same type email me,I have the install manual with notes from me with the correct colors right in my office.

What about on a 98? Does anyone know the color of the wire? My tach doesn't register right and I'm gonna put an aftermarket on.
Thanks-Joe

BULLWAGON,
Have you cheked engine speed sensor(some call it engine crank sensor)? or it connections?
It should be up front on damper.
Also connections to tach in dash.
The engine speed sensor send signals to PCM,which decifers it. Than sends signal to tach.

Help

I'm finally installing the remote start on my truck today and I cannot find the tach wire. I check a few different wires and places but to no luck. I'm testing the wire the way I've tested tach wires on a gasser, pos multimeter lead to power and use the ground multimeter lead to probe wire and watch for changes to AC voltage when you rev the engine.

All the darn printout of color codes have been wrong so far, as I usually expect that, so I know someone out there has had this problem too.

Thanks for all the help, Ryan

BTW the truck is a 96

Thanks Bill, but it wasn't the gray w/ brown tracer.

I was told I can pull it off the crank sensor at the front of the engine, but the wire I'm testing doesn't register a tach signal (gray w/ black tracer).

Am I testing it right? Do anybody else have some input. It looks like tonight
I might be pulling the dash apart to find the wire.

Thanks, Ryan

Ryan, you may have found the right wire but the pulses are coming to fast to measure with your meter. The way I checked mine was to disconnect the tach wire from the wiring connector and see if the tach went to zero. If you disconnect the main connecter you can remove just one wire with a small thin screwdriver under it's connector to lift it's locking tab.
