I am sorry I don't have a ton of information for you on this one. I am still getting used to the 3rd gen. I drove the truck over to Western Washington yesturday and spent most of the day between 8 and -2* F. It only has 25k miles on it and it is completely stock no gauges yet. I am the second owner and this is my first winter with it. Now two things I did notice was after a minute or two idling in park the truck raised the RPM to 1000 where it stayed until the pedal was depressed. The second thing I noticed on the trip yesterday was the charging voltage of the battery seemed higher than I was accustomed on my '01. It was past 14 and 2/3 the way down the sweep. I turned off all accessories to see if it would change and it did not. Any ideas or is this normal. The only other thing that happened yesterday is my brother in law took it to the store. Don't know if they waited to start it as I was asleep at the time. This morning I got in to go get something and I am graced with a CEL. Is there anyway to read the codes? I have tried cycling the key three times like the last truck and that doesn't seem to work. There are no fluids leaking anywhere, the only other thing I can think of is a sensor got some water in it and froze.

If the key cycling doesn't show code, take it to

any auto store, they will read for nothing.

Our trucks come with high idle, will rev higher

after idling for a few min.

Don't go by factory meter, check with voltage regulator.

Truck turned off 12 volts, running 14 volts. factory

gauge is not accurate.

Ok, I must of been doing it wrong, but based off AHolt I went out to retry the key cycling. It is throwing a P0071 and that is all. Do the 3rd gens not throw a companion code anymore?

That code says Inlet air temperature sensor.

If you know anyone with a smarty or code

reader, have them clear it for you, see if

it comes back.

does anyone know where it is located on a 3rd gen. I see where it was located on a 2nd with all the pictures, is it in the same place? My brother in law and I can't seem to find it. THe wiring looms that go back past the fuel filter seem to go into the firewall.

The IAT should be mounted in the intake manifold near the fuel filter, probably to the rear and under. If the code that set is satisfied after the truck has been cycled three times (started, warmed up and driven) it will reset its self. I wouldn't sweat driving it to thanksgiving dinner. Here wishing you and yours a happy thanksgiving. bg

Apparently it is only on the block on the 2nd generations and has been moved to between the air filter and turbo on the 3rd generation. I pulled this sensor and it looks completly different then all the posts for the IAT. However I noticed all the posts for the IAT with pictures were off an 2nd generation. I don't know how to clean this sensor of if it is even the right one.

Thank you to all that replied and provided information. I pulled the sensor on the airbox and cleaned it with Qtips and rubbing alcohol and then put everything back. The sensor did not look dirty at all and the qtips did not get that much off, however now the cel if off. Thank you again

As has been mentioned, our trucks DO go to high idle (1K) when it is really cold out, mine usually high idles at about 35*s. As far as that code, I experienced it twice, both times we had a heavy frost and the temps were right at 0*s, I believe they call it a ***** frost. After a few starts/drives, the engine light went off, have never had it again, but then, have not had that heavy a frost again either. I did not take mine apart and clean it, between the temps and the frost I think that the electronic side of things was stressed to the max potential, this can happen, so I took the side of thinking that went to the cold and moisture affecting things.
