I am working on a friends truck and he had the 216 and 1693 code so i changed the vp 44. He forgot to tell me the tach was acting goofy, sticking in spots and flat out not working at times. When the tach works the truck revs to the redline fine but when it sticks or acts up the truck will only rev to 2000 or so. I checked the codes and found the 1694 and 1698 are these tach related? Does the ecu need the tach signal to rev up? I was going to change the sensor under the vp 44 is this the correct one? The truck is a 2001 automatic 235 hp truck. The lift pump is ne aswell. There is also a check engine light on .

Please help

Steve

Here is what I found ;

P1694 No CCD Messages Received From ECM

P1698 No CCD Messages Received From PCM

Your crank speed sensor sends message to PCM for the rpm(tach) and on 24 v I would think to the ECM.

I think you are in the right place.

I found some acronyms, don't if they are the right ones: "CCD Chrysler Collision Detection: data bus sytem used by the air bag and the anti-lock brake systems. "
