Which injector will be the best for my truck stats below, with added DTT 91% with the works..... 3000 governor spring kit, and delivery valves. I am just like most of you "I WANT POWER" but I also need reliable transportation, 100 miles per day commute so milage is important as well. I love the smoke on command, but not sure I want it too smoke involuntarily (warm idling etc. ) I am also poor :( so cannot continue to change parts, and / or replace broken ones (although with my very heavy foot this may not be avoided) I also plow with the truck as well.

I have the DD3's right now and really like them. I picked up roughly 25-30 HP with them over the 215's that came in my truck.

I bet with your auto, you would pick up at least that or more. The 180's are so much smaller.

The 370's make a little more power overall (about 10HP) but they run a tad smokier in town driving around.

The reliability of both injectors is good.

Get the ones from Joe Donnelly or Piers. There are several different injector part numbers for the 370's and some are not as good as others.

Darren:

I have the 370 Diamond B injectors in my 96' and am

VERY happy with them! Like the other members said,

the DD III's smoke less and make just a little less in

actual H. P. The 370's are also a little cheaper and Piers

keeps them in stock. I got mine from Piers when he

worked @ BD.

Bottom line, it comes down to personal preference

as far as H. P. , smoke etc.

Good luck!

Injectors -vs- Plate

I've always wondered the #'s, but Don solved the equation. :)

In the 215 pumps, you can gain 60hp by sliding the plate all the way forward. So there's the tradeoff in fuel -vs- injector or plate sliding. ;)

Get the 370s, they smoke more, and have a rougher idle.

Without big delivery valves and gov springs there is a stumble about 1100 rpms with the 160 or 180 pump.

I like the rough idle and the more smoke.

you can't go wrong with Piers he is the 12 valve GOD.

I would really like to see some more input on this, fuel milage, cold starting, smoothness, etc. The 370 has four holes right? How many in the DD3s? Would more holes be better?

Still get about 19-20 mpg unless I always have my foot in it.

I drive pritty hard and have not seen much of a change in fuel milage. It seems to be starting ok now but it has not really gotten real cold here yet. They are fairly rough from an idle to about 1200 then they smooth out and really really RUN!

My milage got better on the freeway(+3/4 MPG) and a little less around town (-1/2 MPG) after the 370s and the 16 CM2 housing (done at the same time)

Overall I am very pleased with the 370s:D  :D  :D

I'm real happy with the 370's. I think I may have lost a little MPG's (very little, almost un noticable) but I think it's just the way I drive it.

Is this rough idle an issue with all motors, or just the earlier ones ("small" pump). Sounds like something that would annoy me, and influence the 370 vs DD3 choice.

Pete

I have the small pump along w/DD#3 & they idle great, never had 370's so I can't compare but, they sure put out some power!!

FWIW

My idle is better with the DD III's than with the Bosch 215's. Very happy with them. I never ran 370's so I can't make a direct comparison.

Don't forget your TDR 20% discount @ DD.

I went with the 370's that Donnelly sells and have no stumble or roughness that others have reported. I added the bigger delivery valves later for more power, not to smooth out the engine. Never ran the dd3's.

My truck idles great with the 370s.

dieselburner, How much more power did the delivery valves give you? Yours is a 215 motor Right????

I have the 180 motor. I've been told that it has some kind of a hybrid pump that has the 215 cam in the pump but has the small barrels and plungers. I am trying to find out all I can about this pump to determine if there is any hope for getting more out of it. The guys at Cummins told me that it was a 230HP stationary generator powerplant when they looked up the info on it based on the engine serial number.

Edit: The delivery valves did add alot more power to the truck and boost pressure went from 38psi to 43psi max. I had to install the medium spring in the AFC and turn the afc adjustment until the back of the spring was a little bit more than half way across the inspection hole so that it would not blow a cloud of smoke everytime I left from a stoplight. :D :D :D

You may not see the same increase with the new delivery valves that I did. I would ask one of the others that have the 215 pump and already did the delivery valves if they think it was worth it. On the other hand, it's going to add more fuel so it can't hurt... :D

CAnderson&pcorssmit:

As I said above, I really like my "Piers 370's. "

I haven't noticed a big difference in fuel mileage from

the old 180 injectors if I drive "normally. " However,

if I keep my foot in the throttle all the time, (highway

or in-town) I see slightly lower mileage. In town,

from 17 MPG down to about 16, highway from 18

down to about 17, give or take depending on wind,

load, etc.

The "high flow delivery valves" really seemed to

help my low and top end, but the biggest thing I

noticed was how much smoother the acceleration

seems now.

Hope this helps everyone.

Almost forgot... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

Cold starting does not seemed to have changed at all.

My 96' has always started very quickly with no idle

problems either, unless it is REAL cold!
