Ok, so I have been routinely using Stanadyne Diesel Performance additive in my 2004 whenever towing a heavy trailer since the truck was new. Yesterday I was in a gas station fueling up with my trailer attached. I re-opened a bottle of Stanadyne to pour into the tank prior to fueling (I had used some of the bottle during the last fill up).

I opened the cap and tipped the bottle into the filler neck just as I noticed that the cardboard cap seal (which usually rests inside the cap) was on top of the open mouth of the bottle - having stuck to the bottle rather than staying in the cap. Before I could do anything to stop it, the cardboard seal went down the filler neck and into the tank (at least I assume that's where it went). I drove home over 200 miles after the seal fell in with no problems other than worrying about the dissolving seal.

My truck is a 2004 with the engine mounted fuel transfer pump. I have replaced that failing pump with a frame mounted FASS unit (without filter). Can anyone tell me how much (if any) trouble that seal is going to cause? Will it disolve in the diesel fuel and be trapped by my stock fuel filter?

Thanks

i certainly wouldn't lose sleep over it. when i did my fuel tank vent mod, i noticed some silt and foreign matter in my tank, and when i drilled the holes for rearranging the hoses, i actually wasn't able to catch all of the plastic shavings made by the spade drill bit. they fell to the bottom of the tank, and have been there for 15 months now. you'd be amazed at the garbage that is in fuel.

Oh man, I can imagine the feeling of helplessness as that thing tumbled into the fuel tank.

The good news is, there's nothing to worry about. Even if it didn't dissolve there would be nothing to worry about. That little cardboard disk won't hurt a thing, I promise.

Thanks Ryan and DZink. At least I won't worry about it now - though I'll always wonder what happened to it. Maybe I'll drop one of the disks into a jar of diesel to see what happens...

Ha! I thought i was the sole member of that club. I did exactly the same thing 3 years ago on a 94 yr model and have suffered no ill effects. Drive on! regards, steve whalen
